In the midst of this relentless pandemic, where many businesses are closing their doors, a glimmer of something new emerging is music to our ears! The Wildwood Instruments Art Gallery is a small independent gallery in the Victoria area that is about to open its doors to the public.

Nick Carpenter is a luthier and artist, and has created a very welcoming gallery space, dedicated to the theme of music. He creates stunning 3D artwork that draws on the grain and sparkle (and everything in between) of our musical culture.

Nick’s studio, where he teaches violin making, and the new art gallery are located in Mount Franklin, a stone’s throw (rolling) from Daylesford. The gallery will kick off with Nick’s last exhibition, Music Is My Muse, on October 30, 2021, the Melbourne Cup long weekend. It will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The exhibition will run until the end of November, after which the gallery will continue to open on weekends, with a changing array of Nick’s works on display. Come chat with the artist and see “remarkable” works of art. There’s an observation window in the workshop where you can even watch a guitar-making class in progress.
If you cannot make it to the exhibition, you will be able to view Music Is My Muse online at from the opening date.

About the artist

Nick has been involved in the music industry for over 30 years. He is an instrument maker and has been part of groups playing various instruments, as well as writing, performing and recording music. He has been running Wildwood Instruments since 1999, where he has made over a thousand instruments and taught hundreds of people the art of violin making. Her artistic work is an ART X MUSIC love story. His visual art revolves around musical instruments and themes around music, a natural extension of his life’s passion. Bringing together the skills of a luthier, musician and artist, he creates a very original and intriguing style of art. While the handcrafted instruments he makes are beautiful works of art, it’s his visual art that speaks volumes. There is so much to say about music and the enormous impact it has had on our culture, throughout human civilization. It is these emotional songs that he sings with his art.
