There was an electric excitement in the air during the VIP premiere of the second annual Frieze Los Angeles, held yesterday at Paramount Pictures Studios. The buzz for the fair is everywhere in town, fueled by Barbara Kruger’s Bold Questions plastered across town (a public art commission designed by Frieze to spark excitement). The preview brought together celebrities like Usher and Leonardo DiCaprio as well as many lesser-known Angelenos, all eager to embark on stimulating contemporary work that intertwines with cultural representation, the current political climate, the visibility of communities. Latinx and other hot topics. problems.

Given the sunny forecast this weekend, the fair should continue to draw crowds and with them plenty of opportunities to spot the sartorial flair of the art world. After our trip to Frieze yesterday, we can confirm that comfort, coupled with a cheerful ensemble, is the key to a successful visit.

In our latest installment of Art Style, we’ve rounded up some of the best outfits we’ve seen at Frieze Los Angeles, along with some personal details about the people behind the outfits.

Why they are here: Representative Mendes Wood DM from Sao Paulo, Brazil

What they wear and what inspired the look: The set is Zara. I like to mix high fashion and low fashion, and I’m a big fan of monochrome looks, especially when I travel so much, it makes it easier for me.

Why they are here: I’m here to see the different stands, which is the pleasure of finding new pieces and artists. You never know who or what you are when you turn the corner, it’s all coincidence.

What they wear and what inspired the look: I am wearing a new piece of [Copenhagen-based] Cecilie Bahnsen that I just bought yesterday. It fit me perfectly and I thought, “Perfect, I’m going to wear it to the art fair!”

What they wear and what inspired the look: I wanted to be in conversation with some of my work—[which is] inspired by my mixed heritage (I’m white and black) and created to broaden the conversation – to get this message across of selling to black collectors and making art more inclusive for everyone involved. I bought this canvas garment and painted the text in my studio. I also wear these Grace Jones inspired earrings by this Australia based line called Doodad and Fandango.
