Concept art for The Batman shows that its creators realized exactly what they wanted the movie to look like from the start.
Chances are many of you heard there was yet another Batman movie in theaters, you rolled your eyes. When it was revealed that Robert Pattinson would be playing The Dark Knight, you may have thrown your arms up in the air in exasperation and labeled The Batman not for you long before it made its big screen debut. I hope you changed your mind because this Batman movie was different from others, and now it’s streaming, more and more people are discovering it.
Since there’s now more than one way to watch The Batman, and it can be watched as many times as you want at no additional cost, it’s made for some closer scrutiny. IGN pulled a few memorable scenes from the film and compared them to its concept art. Suffice to say, director Matt Reeves and the rest of the team behind The Batman had a very clear vision from the start of the production process.
Concept art is usually exactly that. The opportunity for the creators of a project to get an idea of what can and cannot be done, and maybe even have a little fun. Concept art for Spider-Man: No Way Home has revealed that it was once planned to include America Chavez. As you can see in the edit below, some of The Batman’s concept art was so perfect from day one that it was carried out years later in the finished film.
Some of the scenes that make up the montage include Batman talking with Jim Gordon just before he exits the police station, The Dark Knight and Gordon interrogating The Penguin, and Pattinson’s first kiss with Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman right next to the Bat. -Signal. Whether it’s incredibly diligent location scouting or better CGI work, the team behind the film managed to bring Batman’s concept art to reality with incredible precision.
A comparison of the final shots to concept art for The Batman isn’t the only thing fans have been doing with the film since it became available to stream. Eagle-eyed Batman aficionados also noticed a scene fairly early in the movie where The Riddler can be seen watching The Iceberg Lounge. Spoiler alert – long before he shot and killed Carmine Falcone from this exact location. Reeves even confirmed that the blurry figure is really The Riddler, watching from the shadows as his plan unfolds.
