Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now a certified box office success as it has grossed over $900 million and received positive responses from fans and critics alike. One of the stars of the movie is Wong, who had plenty of action sequences and awesome moments throughout. However, it turns out there was supposed to be more scenes in the movie than they ended up showing.
Concept artist Dean Sherriff shared some of the artwork he made for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on his portfolio website where he revealed that Wong was supposed to appear in the Earth-838 scenes with Doctor Strange and America Chavez.
You can check out some of his work for the film here:
Sherriff offered no explanation as to why Wong was ultimately dropped from the scene. Also, it looks like Defender Wong was in the designs instead of the Earth-616 Wong we know. As The Direct pointed out in their report, there was merchandise featuring Defender Wong, who didn’t end up appearing in the film for unknown reasons.
We know the movie went through a lot of reshoots during its production and maybe they shot some scenes where a variant of Wong was present in Earth-838 before they decided to cut it. Perhaps we’ll hear more details and explanations on this once we see the behind-the-scenes documentary of the film in the near future.
The film’s premise reads, “The MCU is unlocking the Multiverse and pushing its limits further than ever before. Journey into the unknown with Doctor Strange, who, with the help of mystical allies old and new, traverses the mind-bending and dangerous alternate realities of the Multiverse to face a mysterious new adversary.”
