Doctor Strange 2 Concept Art Teases Scrapped Illuminati Character Daniel Craig

With the multiverse at the center of its story, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness took fans on a cameo-filled journey through multiple realities. While the Illuminati introduced the likes of Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell), and Reed Richards (John Krasinski), the official team composition always seemed to be in flux. In fact, at one point, Thor’s brother, Balder the Brave, was set to appear on the interdimensional council played by none other than Daniel Craig.

Now that the film is officially streaming at home, visual development artist Darrell J. Warner shared a clip of the character’s costume on his Instagram account. Although it doesn’t specifically state which character it is, the Asgardian can be seen with one of Odin’s crows. Warner also says the designs belong to a character who is a brother to Thor and Loki.

Earlier this month, Multiverse of Madness Costume designer Graham Churchyard told ComicBook.com that the character’s design got to the prototype stage before the character was changed. Craig was unable to commit to the role due to various COVID-related travel restrictions around the world.

“We went very deep in designing Balder the Brave and then we waited and waited and waited for the cast,” Churchyard said on our Phase Zero podcast. , gathering fabrics and ideas and waiting for an actor. Poor Balder the Brave, he almost did Thor 1, and Thor 2and Thor 3, if I may simplify this. Then it’s just like, ‘Yay! He’s going to have a cameo!” Poor man. I’ve seen the Marvel archive book drawings of Balder’s helmet going back to Kenneth Branagh’s. Tor. So he’s been waiting a long time and I don’t think he’s going to make an appearance anytime soon.”
