Spider-Man: No Path Home Concept art sees Doctor Strange crush Peter Parker / Spider-Man, holding some sort of book, through a window. Since its release on December 17, 2021, Jon Watts’ No way home managed to account for 12% of the 2021 US box office, breaking records around the world. Much of the film’s success is due to its multiversal concept and nostalgia for the return of Spider-Man characters from Sony’s past.
After Quentin Beck / Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) mentored Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and revealed his identity in Far from home credits scene, No way home sees Peter heading to the New York Sanctuary to seek help from Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). Strange attempts a spell to make the world forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Sadly, Peter changes the spell several times to allow those close to him to remember who he really is. When the spell inevitably turns sour, a handful of familiar faces are brought into the MCU, including Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Electro (Jamie Foxx), Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), and Lizard (Rhys Ifans). . After capturing said villains, Peter discovers that Strange intends to reverse the spell, which it contains in a cube, and send the villains back to their respective universes, where they will die fighting Spider-Man. To avoid their deaths, Peter steals the spell and fights Strange before trapping the latter in the Mirror Dimension.
Artist Maciej Kuciara recently used social media to share artistic concepts for No way home. The pieces represent the battle of Spider-Man and Strange, the wizard smashing Spider-Man through a window. Upon closer inspection, it’s clear that Spider-Man is holding a book instead of a cube. Another setting I made while designing Strange vs Peter for Spiderman: No Way Home, from the trailer I’m not sure if that scene was there but it was still fun working on it pic.twitter.com/JG3QFvd6h2

I’m not sure if this exact scene ended in Spiderman: No Way Home, but I definitely saw this part of the movie in the trailer.
A huge thank you to @DGilfordDesign for inviting me to the series and a big thumbs up to the entire team that worked on the film. It turned out amazing! pic.twitter.com/XD9l5lPGTp

Before all the multiverse talk, Far from home set up a very different sequel to what No way home ended up becoming. Many believed the film would star Kraven the Hunter, an antagonist that fans want to see on the big screen. Eventually, Marvel Studios and Sony came up with the idea to bring in Doctor Strange and explore the idea of a wish gone awry, which leads to villains from Spidey’s past. However, while the writers have always wanted to include Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man as well, the cast didn’t sign the project until mid-shoot. With so much going on, it’s no surprise to see Spider-Man holding a book (rather than a cube) in concept art. Given Marvel’s penchant for secrecy, it’s also entirely possible that Kuciara was told to “book” instead of “cube” to keep plot details under wraps.
From Spider-Man’s fight with Strange and the healing of iconic villains to discussing great power and responsibility with old friends, Spider Man: No way home managed to successfully explore its multiversal concept while also preparing viewers for the sequel. The credits of the film end with the slogan “Doctor Strange will return”. As for the books, the wizard’s next adventure, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will see him look for Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), who experimented with the Book of the Damned, as seen in WandaVision.
