If the Dragon Ball Super Anime returns, what art style could it use?


Since Dragon Ball Super ended in March 2018, the anticipation of his return has been a constant for the dragonball fan base. Why Dragon Ball Super’s Animation Received Backlash While The Movies Were Praised

Animator Toei Tadayoshi Yamamuro served as the character designer for several Dragon Ball Z90s movies, with many of his designs incorporated into the series itself. A New Dragon Ball Super Anime Could Go Any Way Visually

While Toei has worked on CGI on movies before, a hypothetical 3DCG Dragon Ball Super the follow-up would be the company’s first foray into an all-CGI television production, competing with critically acclaimed shows like Beastars and Land of the Brilliant. Super hero would therefore be a perfect test launch for dragonballnew look before a new series. However, it’s possible that Toei simply chose the look of the film due to a lack of schedule – with many of their 2D animators working on other projects, Super heroThe look of might have been the result of an overly spread animation team.

This may not be an issue for a future TV series. Should Great return to 2D, many fans are hoping that Naohiro Shintani will return as a character designer. In terms of weekly production, his simpler designs would go a long way to ensuring the characters stay on the model from episode to episode, while allowing animators to render designs more detailed during more intense sequences, such as in Broly.

Alternatively, Tadayoshi Yamamuro could return in order to maintain consistency between the original Great and its follow-up. Although it does not work on Broly Where Super hero, Yamamuro continued to work for the franchise on Dragon Ball Super Heroes, a monthly animated tie-in with the arcade game of the same name. While fans critical of Yamamuro’s modern approach might be skeptical of his return, his production on Hero showed something of a return to form, with less excessive shadows and character faces that are more reminiscent of his Z-period work.

Chikashi Kubota, Super hero‘s character designer, could be another candidate. Despite Super hero Being primarily 3D, the film features a traditionally animated prologue recapping the events of the Red Ribbon Army and Cell Sagas, Key animated by Kubota. Some have speculated that the sequence could be a trial for Kubota to handle the design of a complete system Dragon Ball Super series.

The Red Ribbon Army section features simple designs and smooth animation, while the Cell section highlights key battles from the arc with highly detailed character artwork. Although both prologue segments received praise from the fanbase, the direction Kubota would ultimately go if given the keys to the series’ character designs is unknown at this point.

That the designs of a new Great whether the series would be handled by Yamamuro, Shintani, Kubota or someone else remains to be seen. Hopefully, whatever format the show returns to, it can continue to give fans the eye candy that Broly and Super hero already dealt with them – and gives the animators a much healthier schedule than the original Great.
