It’s worth it | ‘Repo Man’ resurfaces with new developer and expanded concept, also available on PlayStation and Xbox

The man from the depotprimarily features a unique story and style, while the gameplay will feature intricate dialogue, negotiation, exploration, combat, and mechanics borrowed from stealth and card games, all combined in an open world .

The game is developed by Achara Studios, an independent Polish development team dedicated to story-driven titles and high-quality level design. REPO MAN is built with Unreal Engine 5. The game will be published by Games Box SA, a subsidiary of the Ultimate Games SA group.

The man from the depot, built with Unreal Engine 5, is a first-person RPG focused on single-player gameplay. It revolves around dialogues, investigation, negotiation and good time management. Whereas The man from the depot is primarily driven by its elaborate and multi-level story, the game will also offer stealth gameplay, card game, combat and exploration elements.

The player takes on the role of Arthur Newstead, a debt collector whose life begins to crumble when he unexpectedly gets himself into debt. Exiled from the world of corporate aristocracy, he is forced to return to his hometown of San Alma. Newstead faces not only the need for regular debt repayment, but also mysterious events and schemes that escalate each week.

The developers envision a unique graphic design with patterns reminiscent of the Art Nouveau style. The game’s special atmosphere is enhanced by a soundtrack that mixes a variety of genres, including synthwave, fado, ethnic and symphonic music.

Originally announced in 2019 by Baldur Games, The man from the depot has since been rebooted, got a new developer, and is now coming to consoles as well.

“Most importantly, this is not another so-called walking simulator. The man from the depotis closer to Torment than Disco Elysium. When developing a game, we strive to ensure that our title offers diverse and engaging gameplay rather than just clicking through dialogue options,” says Alan Padziński, CEO of Achara Studios.

“In The man from the depot, we’ll take players to an alternate reality – a world resembling our own, more developed in some ways and lagging behind in others. It is a world populated not only by humans, but also by Fae – descendants of mythological beings resembling elves, dryads and satyrs. The peoples of the planet also have to deal with TDD, an epidemic-like depression whose cause remains unknown. This world is closer to its end than its beginning,” says Alan Padziński.

The man from the depot is one of the most intriguing titles to be released in 2023. It will appeal to those who enjoy gameplay similar to that of Planescape: Torment or Disco Elysium, and in terms of presentation it will appeal to fans of the BioShock, Deus Ex, Dishonored, and others,” says Tomasz Supeł, CEO of Games Box SA

A playable demo of the game will be released on PC (Steam) in the first quarter of 2023, offering a glimpse of what The man from the depot will bring to the table.
