Mattie King Davis Art Gallery Welcomes Trio of Artists and Friends | Entertainment

BEAUFORT – The Mattie King Davis Art Gallery will host a free exhibition on Friday, December 3 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., featuring the work of longtime friends Jimmy Craig Womble, Lisa Tuchek and Mandy Johnson.

They will also be the gallery’s featured artists for the Beaufort Holiday Art Walk on Saturday, December 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the gallery’s featured artists for the months of December and January.

“We are extremely happy to welcome this fun trio back for a second holiday season! Hannah Taylor, director of public relations for the Beaufort Historic Site, noted in a press release. From Johnson’s use of fine lines and blocking, to Tuchek’s use of mixed media and Womble’s beautiful use of oils to capture overlooked elements – these three elements provide variety for any art lover. . “

Although their styles may differ, this trio of friends have always been inspired by each other and creating together for years. They put on various shows together and even started a group called Side Show Art, which only included all three. Side Show Art held several exhibitions at local private homes and also had a website where they sold small paintings. Eventually, the trio branched out into other ventures, but they never failed to participate in the event that brought them together for the first time, the Beaufort Holiday Art Walk.

In 2011, Tuchek created the Beaufort Holiday Art Walk, a tradition that is now carried on by the Carteret County Arts Council each December. The Art Walk is a way for local artists to come together and display their work in various shops and restaurants in the city.

About their first experience showing their work together at the Art Walk, Tuchek said, “We naturally grew closer to each other. It is now a tradition to do the Art Walk together. I cannot imagine that it is not.

While the trio were featured at various locations during the Art Walk, Tuchek says she loves being at the Mattie King Davis Art Gallery with Johnson and Womble as it gives them more room for creations and to be able to present. their work alongside each other for a longer period of time.
