The AU Department of Art and Art History offers an overview of graduate students’ work with the Studio Graduate Student Show, hosted this fall by Assistant Professor Jamey Grimes.

The exhibit introduces new graduate students to campus and the arts community and allows current students to show off their latest work.

Sandra Vega, a graduate student in printmaking, presents her piece “Untitled” at the salon.

“It’s almost like an icebreaker for graduate students,” Vega said. “We get to know new students, and they get to know us, and so on. “

Vega said the show had a unique way of bringing the department together because “mergers rarely get the opportunity to show and share a space like this.” The gallery features paintings, sculptures, ceramics and more.

The show features 14 students and 26 plays, spanning genres, styles and themes, ranging from overtly political to purely abstract.

Vega said the show highlighted the students’ prowess in their craft.

“Every year, we get together one evening, talk about what we’ve got, and put on the show so that we can give the student body a glimpse of what the arts department is working on,” Vega said.

More information can be found about the event website with a online album screening, which lists the artists and their associated pieces.
