The Terre Haute Convention Center will host the 80th anniversary of the Swope Art Museum

HIGH EARTH, Ind. (WTWO / WAWV) – On a rainy Friday afternoon, the final touches of the Terre Haute Convention Center were being finalized.

General manager Tennille Wanner said on Friday that five events had been confirmed at the site.

These include several private celebrations, the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana, and the 80th anniversary of the Swope Arts Museum.

“Construction continues to be ahead of schedule. Things are looking really good, ”said Wanner.

She adds that the Convention Center management team will focus on planning and publicity to secure more events.

While waiting for COVID-19 protocols, the center wants to host more than 100 events in its first year.

“It was one of our goals in a partial year. We just have to wait and see, ”she added. “We want every event to be an experience for all those who visit it”

Crowds at each event would vary from a few people to hundreds, depending on the event.

“It will create more dining possibilities in the city center, it will only stimulate tourism. I think as things move forward, I hope the downtown area grows and flourishes, ”said Wanner.

The opening date of the Convention Center is tentatively scheduled for April 9, 2022.
